Thank You For Helping Us Save Dogs Like Alice During National Feed a Rescue Pet Week!

Alice was just 11 months old when she broke her leg. Without the money to cover the cost of surgery, Alice’s owner considered taking her to the shelter to be euthanized.

The Houston Humane Society veterinarian had a better idea.

Thanks to food donations from GreaterGood.org’s Rescue Bank program and The Animal Rescue Site, the shelter had saved enough money to cover the cost of setting Alice’s leg in a cast.

Alice has a brighter future today thanks to your donations, which help keep these programs going. She also has a big responsibility as official spokesdog for the National Feed a Rescue Pet Week campaign that wrapped up at the end of July 2020.

This year, GreaterGood set a goal of 2.4 million meals and 150,000 pounds of critical supplies such as bowls, leashes, crates and more during National Feed a Rescue Pet Week. We raised 2.28 million meals and 142,800 lbs. of supplies, a little short of the goal but more than enough to change the lives of shelter pets across the country. All of this will be donated to shelters to help animals, many in the same position Alice one faced.

July is already one of the busiest months for many shelters and rescues, and the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has made it even harder for shelter staff to work together. Thousands of shelters and rescues around the country are struggling financially due to the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic. Many are operating at maximum capacity and are struggling to stay afloat. Without donated food and supplies, they may be forced to close their doors on pets in desperate need of their help.

That’s where GreaterGood.org’s Rescue Bank program comes in. Rescue Bank is a crucial supply service relied upon by shelters and rescues around the country and having provided 400 million meals to shelter pets to date, we aren’t planning on stopping. We’ve continued to dispense emergency food and supplies to struggling shelters and rescues since the pandemic began, helping pets like Alice here fight for the future she deserves.
